Wild Places, Fine Art, and Deep Ecology
I’m thrilled to finally be able to introduce a project that’s been in the works for months: my new Substack publication, Portraits of Nature | Wild Places, Fine Art, and Deep Ecology. On these pages I will be sharing my fine art photographs, of course, but also essays and reflections on art, photography, the nature of light, wild places, wildlife, deep ecology, and the experiences that continue to shape my work and my life.
Some pieces will begin with a photograph. Others will begin with a place, an encounter, a question, a quotation, or an idea that has stayed with me.
My objective is not simply to show beautiful things, but to bear witness.
To approach wild landscapes and wild creatures as individuals with agency, identities, and spirits of their own.
To share how photography can be more than documentation—how it can become an act of attention, interpretation, and relationship.
I want to invite readers, collectors, fellow photographers and naturalists—in short, everyone who cares about our living planet—to join the conversation.
I’d be honored if you would follow along with me as we see where this goes.
